Welcome to the 2nd Scurry Swims - Lochore  at Lochore Meadows Country Park hosted by Scurry Events - Saturday 8th June 2024

Scurry Events are excited to introduce the Scurry Lochore swim festival an event which is all about Open water swimming in a beautiful Scottish loch with the addition two triathlon Scotland sanctioned Aquathlons for those who wish an additional run.

There are several distances to choose from and Lochore Meadows is a perfect spot for a safe introduction to Open water swimming or for the more experienced longer distance swimmer.

The organisers Scurry Events have run a number of Open water swimming events based mainly around triathlons both at Lochore Meadows country Park and other locations.

There will be a 5 swim distances based around triathlon swim distance events and two Aquathlons - a Standard distance and a Sprint distance:

  • 3800m - Tod island Iron distance swim
  • 1900m - Tod island Middle distance swim
  • 1500m - Tod island Olympic distance swim
  • 750m - Sprint distance swim
  • 250m - Novice swim
  • Lochore Sprint Aquathlon - 750m swim / 5km run
  • Tod island Lochore Standard Aquathlon - 1500m swim / 10km run

All are in the beautiful fresh water of Loch Ore with good safety cover within a friendly swimming environment.

Detailed pre race information including a race briefing will be emailed in the week before the event.

Event Schedule -To be confirmed in pre-race information but likely to be 

Registration 08.00 - 11.15  in the marquee behind the park centre building in Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Swim and Aquathlon start times:

3800m Tod island Iron distance swim (2 laps) and 1900m Tod island Middle distance swim (1 lap) start - 08.45

1500m Tod Island Olympic distance swim and Standard distance Aquathlon start - 10.45

750m Lochore Sprint distance swim and Sprint distance Aquathlon start - 11.30

250m Novice swim - 11.50

Great facilities exist at the park with many attractions for non competing family supporters.

Competitors will receive a post race drink (water / Active Root) and snack (Tribe protein Flapjack) along with an event medal and race memento. More information on prizes and sponsorship will follow in our pre race information and on social media. Prizes are likely to be 1st overall male and female in each event.

Minimum age levels for each swim distance:

250m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 8+ (under 12's must be accompanied by an adult 1:1)

750m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 12+

1500m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 16+

1900m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 17+ (Best Suited to Experienced Swimmers)

3800m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 18+ (Best Suited to Experienced Swimmers) - Cut off's times will be applied - see individual events.

1500m Swim | 10K Run Aquathlon Open to those aged 17+ 

750m Swim | 5K Run Aquathlon Open to those aged 15+ 

What's Included:

Professional, experienced organisers; Full water safety cover to governing body standards (kayaks, motor boats etc.); Full land safety and 1st Aid team; Support of the outdoor watersports centre; Event Chip Timing; Finishers' Medal; Finishers memento; Event Swim Cap; Marshals; Bag Drop Tent; Changing Facilities if required (showers £2/3pp); Free event Car Parking and more.

Additional equipment that may be used by all swimmers: Neoprene socks and non webbed neoprene gloves, neoprene hat (worn under event swim cap), ear plugs

Additional equipment that may NOT be used: Snorkles, flippers, hand paddles, webbed gloves, headphones, pull buoy or other floation aids, any power assisted aids.

Wetsuits and water temperatures:

Wetsuit use is optional for water temperatures of 18⁰C or above. Water temperature of the loch in June is usually between 1 and 16°. Swimmers choosing not to wear a wetsuit MUST use an approved high visibility tow float. This only applies to swimmers aged over 16 years old. Swimmers aged under 16 will be required to wear a wetsuit. 

Water temperature of 20° and above: no wetsuit.

Water temperature between 18° and 19.9° swimmer can choose to wear a wetsuit or not.

Water temperature between 14° and 17.9° wetsuits are compulsory.

Wetsuits are compulsory for all Juniors aged between 8 and 12 years.

The above temperatures and compulsory wetsuit use will apply for both the Aquathlons and the swim distances up to 1500m. For the 1900m and 3800m swim we may allow on an individual basis swimmers to swim without a wetsuit under the 18 degrees. Please email info@scurryevents.co.uk and outline a swim CV. You must be capable of swimming the distance and sign a waiver at registration. For example we have allowed 1 swimmer who has swum the channel recently without a wetsuit and taken on a winter relay swim.

Cancellation: In the event of extreme weather, water quality issues or other events outwith our control the race may be cancelled and re-arranged for a later date. In the event of this race being cancelled your entry will be automatically transferred to a rescheduled date. This date will be decided by Scurry Events (most likely the following week). If you are unable to make this date then a 25% refund can be made (you will need to email within a month of the event for this to processed). However, should the Lochore Meadows Country Park (or another 3rd party) not permit a resheduled date within a short timescale and the resource not be available or the weather still unpredictable to reschedule within a month from the scheduled date then we will have no choice but to cancel and offer no refund. 

In the event of abandonment, postponement or cancellation of the event, we will have no responsibility for any costs incurred because of cancellation, including travel or accommodation costs.

Participant withdrawal / Refund policy: If for any reason after registration you wish to withdraw from the event: Any time up until 30 days from the date of the event you can login to entry central and organise a transfer with someone you know or email for a 50% refund. Between 30 days and 14 days from the event you can login to entry central and organise a transfer with someone you know or email for a 25% refund. No refunds will be given within 14 days. Participants who do not attend the event will not receive any form of refund/credit. During the event: no refunds will be given.

GDPR By signing up to this event you agree that we may publish your personal information as part of the results of the event and may pass such information to the governing body if applicable or any affilliated organisation for the purpose of insurance, licences or for publishing results either for the event alone or combined with or compared to other events. Results may include (but not be limited to) name, any club affiliation, race times, occupation and age category. I agree that my contact details can be used to communicate with me for matters relating to the organising of this event, including but not limited to, updates on event planning and results (including links to social media event groups) and for communication about holding of this event in the following year.

Scurry Swims Lochore - 3800m - Tod island iron distance swim

3800m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 18+ (Best Suited to Experienced Swimmers) - Cut off's times will be applied.

This 3800m iron distance swim is best suited to more experienced swimmers or those training for an Iron distance event. Equivalent to 76 lengths of a 50m swimming pool, swimmers must be able to reach 1900m (Half way) within an hour and 5 minutes. Cut off times will apply to those that have not reached this point. Note the mandatory swim cut off time for an Iron distance event is 2hrs 20 minutes so reaching half way in 1hr 5mins should be achievable.

The swim will be 2 laps of the 1900m course. Swimmers enjoy an Aussie exit of the water after the first lap crossing the finish timing mat before and returning after a short run around the sand to the beach startline again for lap 2. We aim to have a water / Active Root / snack station station at this point if required.

Scurry Swims Lochore - 1900m - Tod island middle distance swim

1900m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 17+ (Best Suited to Experienced Swimmers)

This 1900m middle distance swim is best suited to more experienced swimmers or those training for a middle distance triathlon event. Equivalent to 38 lengths of a 50m swimming pool.

Cut off times will apply to those that have not completed the course in 1hr 10 minutes and they may be asked to come in with the safety boat if they are not close to the shore.

Scurry Swims Lochore - Tod Island Standard Aquathlon - Swim 1500m /Run 10km

Distance: 1500m Swim and 10km run -  Junior 17 -19 , Adult 

The Standard distance Aquathlon enjoys a 1500 metre swim in the beautiful fresh water of Loch Ore with good safety cover within a friendly swimming environment. The swim will be 1 lap of 1500 metres. As this involves open water swimming in Scotland wetsuits are required!

The run will leave the transition area, and head out along the loch side. It is 2 laps of a flat 5km course out along the Lochside and back to the finish on the grass by the white marquee.

 

Race Pass

A race pass provides you with insurance cover during racing and training with triathlon clubs and is mandatory for racing in British Triathlon sanctioned events. They are available either for a year as part of Core and Ultimate memberships with governing body Triathlon Scotland, or on a race by race basis (£2 for athletes aged up to 24 years and £8 for those aged 24 or over). Those without an annual race pass will pay a higher entry fee which will include a race pass. Alternatively, you may join Triathlon Scotland prior to the race. See information about Triathlon Scotland membership here. Race passes will be checked at race registration.

Scurry Swims Lochore - 1500m - Tod island olympic distance swim

1500m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 16+

Ideally you will be able to complete this swim within 55 minutes of the start.

A cut off time of 1 hour will be applied and you may be asked to come in with the safety boat unless you are very close to the shore.

Scurry Swims Lochore - Sprint Aquathlon - Swim 750m /Run 5km

Distance: 750m Swim and 5km run -  Min age 15 - Youths, Junior 17 -19 , Adult 

The Sprint distance Aquathlon enjoys a 750 metre swim in the beautiful fresh water of Loch Ore with good safety cover within a friendly swimming environment. The swim will be 1 lap of 750 metres. As this involves open water swimming in Scotland wetsuits are required!

The run will leave the transition area, and head out along the loch side. It is a flat 5km course out along the Lochside and back to the finish on the grass by the white marquee.

Scurry Swims Lochore - 750m - Sprint distance swim

750m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 12+

Ideally you will be able to complete this swim within 25 minutes of the start.

A cut off time of  30 minutes will be applied and you may be asked to come in with the safety boat unless you are very close to the shore.

Scurry Swims Lochore - 250m - Novice swim

250m Open Water Swim Open to those aged 8+ (under 12's must be accompanied by an adult 1:1)

Suitable for Age 8 and above, every child aged under 12 must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult per child). In this case an adult is anyone aged 18+ years old.

Accompanying adults must also sign up (and accompanying adults only) can use the discount code SS250 which will reduce their Entry Cost by £10.
