This event is in a testing state, and is not open for public sign-ups until the organiser has launched it.

Organiser's Description

Duncan Macfarlane was in his day, a well-respected and accomplished runner - being part of the Victoria Park AC team, along with Scottish legend Andy Forbes, who were the only non-English team to win the English Cross County Championship 1952. Read more here.

Duncan Macfarlane, being Michelle's grandfather, is also by that measure Acorn Trails' great-grandfather! And we are proud of that!

January 14th, 1921 saw the good man born just up the road near Balloch. To commemorate his 100th birthday, we brought you the Duncan Macfarlane VIRTUAL, and raised over £300 for The Woodland Trust.

The Dunky

Still celebrating his achievements, we bring you The Dunky. A two lap 7.5km trail race in Mugdock Country Park. Mugdock was chosen as it is the old weekend stomping ground of Dunky, and his Victoria Park AC clubmates.

The route will take you through the park passing two castles, a loch and a World War II anti-aircraft emplacement. Circling the water's edge it will throng through the falling autumn leaves, and weather permitting offer extensive views across the Greater Glasgow area.

Start time

Mugdock Country Park visitor centre. Registration is 8.30 and race start is 9.30

What charity is the event supporting?

Duncan was a big fan of the natural world and enjoyed nothing more than being out with his family walking the beautiful trails of Scotland's highlands and islands. We are using this event to support the Woodland Trust. A donation will be made to them, with the option for entrants to top this donation up during the entry process.

What is included?

As well as a donation to The Woodland Trust, your entry includes exclusive access to the overflow carpark - first 70 cars. Please car share where possible.

Your entry also includes money which goes direct to East Dunbartonshire Council to help with the upkeep of such an amazing open space.

What else is available?

Medals from sustainable sourced wood, buffs and t-shirts are also available at sign-up for an additional cost.

Our aim is to keep costs and waste to a minimum. We don't charge the earth, and don't automatically assume you want the additionals.
