Organiser's Description

Charity

All profits for the race entries will be donated to Cowal Hospice.

Why Cowal Hospice? Michelle grew up in Dunoon, the 'Capital of Cowal'!

Recently the family have had need of the services supplied by Cowal Hospice. Big Ter, Michelle's dad has been suffering from a rare type of blood cancer requiring multiple treatments in Greenock and Glasgow.

Cowal Hospice provide an amazing volunteer run patient transfer service for the PIA journeys that residing in Cowal gives residents when they require such special treatment.

The Hospice also provide families with many other services, which we hope we don't require, but many do....in-patient palliative care, Macmillan nurse support and day therapy to mention just a few!

Like many hospices they rely on donations and fund raising to pay for their services.

All profits from the entry fee will be donated to the Hospice.

Pollok Country Park

The land now occupied by Pollok Country Park was first widely known as ‘Nether Pollok’. It was originally part of the Barony of Mearns in Renfrewshire. ‘Nether’ means ‘lower’ and ‘Pollok’ is thought to derive from the Gaelic word, ‘pollag’, which means ‘small pond’.

Some fantastic detail on the park, it's history and it future can be found at:
https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=35711&p=0

The route

The route consists of a 5k (ish) loop, twice for 10k participants. It's a trail race....that's an 'ish'. Bit of mud - hopefully. Some incline. Some decline. And some faster paved bits. There will be a couple of marshalled road crossings within the park.

The route will cover a large area of the park and is definitely multi-terrain. Weather conditions between now and then will define what shoe type will be best on the day!

Entry

Entry cost is £9 for the 5k.

For the 10k entry is £14.

T-shirts will be available made to order, but only for the first two weeks entry is open.

These will be available to collect at race registration. Event goody bags will be isused once you cross the finish line along with refreshments.

Entry is limited to 160 10km and 5km runners total over both events.

Finish line and timing

Pollok Park Trail Race will be manually timed. It helps to keep your race bib pinned in a nice clear place. Shirt or shorts is fine as long as we can see it on your front.

Prizes

There will be prizes for the winners. There will also be a couple of spot prizes available.

Race Brief

A race brief will be emailed out before the event. Please take the time to read this. Many of the conditions of our race (and possible future events) rely on you the runner heeding the regulations that are in place for you and everyone elses safety.

Can't wait to see you on the day…
