Organiser's Description

Harry Gamble-Thompson 20Ten

Harry Gamble-Thompson passed away on the eve of the 2019 20Ten race. Harry became a member of New Marske Harriers not long after it was formed in 1986. He was well known on the North East road running scene, particularly in the marathon. His time 2:32:10 at London Marathon 1982 ranked him 10th in All Time UK Vet 50 for the marathon. He probably ran faster than that - there was no chip timing in those days. Harry was also chairman of the club for 10 years and would still turn up at Saturday sessions to help out until 2018.

Of the races organised by New Marske Harriers, this is the one nearest in distance to his beloved marathon, and the proximity to his passing, it seems an appriate tribute to re-name it in his honour.

FOR 2024....

Entries are now open. This race has previously sold out long before the closing date, however we are aware of other multi-lap 20 mile events now being held in the area. Please remember this is the original 20 lap race and like other NMH races, is not held for private commercial gain, but any profit is reinvested into our sport and/or the community!

If you have done the race before you will interested to know that we have work done to replace the "hairpin" bend with a much smoother couple of left hand ones, and added a new path to make up lap to a certified 1 mile. And we now have a finish into the tennis courts (similar but not identical to Redcar parkrun)

This is an ideal prep race for a spring marathon - although multiple laps are not everyone's cup of tea, there are advantages - each lap (mile) is exactly the same so you can practice your "even pace" or "negative splits" (we will record and publish your mile splits). You pass toilets and water station once a mile, and if you have someone supporting they can shout you on once or twice each lap

All our races are chip time and results are available via our partner results Arrowlive

This is essentially a 20 mile race with a 10 mile option - The default entry is for 20 Miles. You can only change your entry to 10 miles on the day - you decide any time up to 9.9 miles, but if you pull out after 10 miles you will considered as DNF.

Entry Fee:  £23 (Less £3 discount for EA registered)

Prizes for the above races will be awarded to the top age related performances

Please note numbers are to be collected on the day - nothing will be posted out.

In recent years we have raised £1000s for the Friends of Locke Park – we hope to continue to do the same in 2024

 No refunds will be made.
