Organiser's Description

Welcome to the 6th Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill, 10km and 5km trail runs, and 1.2km Festive Fun Running event.

Scurry Events is hosting this event and will once again look to provide community support to South Morningside Primary School and the Friends of the Hermitage

All proceeds of the fun run will go as a charitable donation towards the primary school and the Friends of the Hermitage and Braid along with additional support through volunteer marshals on the day. 

The runs are clearly marked and marshaled off-road routes for everyone to enjoy.  The 5km and 10km trails will follow a 1-lap course starting at the Hermitage of Braid house and following challenging routes up and over Blackford Hill.

The Festive Fun Run is up and down the main drive to the Hermitage House.

All fun run children entrants will receive an elf hat to run in and takeaway and festive wear is encouraged.

Post-race drink and snack. All 10km and 5km participants will receive a race memento.

Hermitage of Braid House, Braid Road, EH10 6JF. Please note there is no parking in the Hermitage. On road parking can be found on Braid Road, Hermitage Drive and nearby streets and competitors must leave time to walk to the registration / start line within the Hermitage (0.6km from the lodge house entrance).

10k (min. age 16yrs on the day of the run)        

£21.50 via entry central - first 40 entries

£23.00 via entry central - next 40 entries

£24.00 via entry central - until closing.

Online entries are preferred.  Limited on-the-day entries £27.00.

Registration Sunday 24th of November  8.45 am - 9.30 am for the 10km and 5km events in the registration tent by the start/finish area (and up to 11 am for the 1.2km fun run).

Clear route maps will be posted on our Facebook page two weeks prior and at the race registration. 

Your vehicle and belongings are your own responsibility and the organisers accept no liability for loss, damage, or theft.

Race Numbers will be issued at registration.

We reserve the right to start the prize giving once 80% of competitors complete the course.

All community fun run proceedings will go to South Morningside Primary School and additional contributions will also support the Friends of the Hermitage and Blackford Hill (SCO31776).

Active Root will be providing a post-race drink and all competitors will receive a race memento.

Health and Safety This is a trail run, you will be running on some, uneven surfaces for example on the tracks through woods. Runners should come adequately prepared for uneven, tarmac, grass, and mud surfaces.

All routes are extensively signposted and well-marshalled. Safety is paramount and we expect runners to follow the advice of marshals at all times & take all reasonable precautions.

Please be courteous towards public dog walkers and other path users as they have equal rights and access to trails and paths in and around the reserve.

This course is not suitable for Canicross runners - please no dogs.

The trail courses are not suitable for pushchairs, baby prams, or run buggies. They are fine on the fun run.

Adverse weather conditions on the day may cause the race to be rescheduled.

Every competitor is asked to confirm their safe arrival back at the finish desk even if they have not been able to complete the course.

First Aid / Injuries These events can be strenuous, and the organisers cannot accept responsibility for any accidents or injuries. A First-aid team will be available at the Start and Finish areas. Anyone withdrawing during the event must report to the finish team.

Emergency Contacts Please ensure you write your emergency contact details on the reverse of your race number.

Car Parking Come by public transport if possible. Please note there is no parking in the Hermitage. On-road parking can be found on Braid Road, Hermitage Drive, and nearby streets and competitors must walk to the registration/start line within the Hermitage. There are limited bike rack spaces at the entrance to the Hermitage by the Lodge Coffee House.

Competitors must leave time to walk to the registration/start line within the Hermitage (0.6km from the lodge house entrance).

Facilities Limited male and female public toilets and additional portaloos will be located at the stables down by the main Hermitage of Braid House and the start/finish area. Please respect the reserve and be patient if small toilet queues form.

 You are responsible for your own kit and valuables. If necessary, there will be a small change tent by the finish line to leave kit for after the race. Please mark this with your race number. Please only bring what you will race in to the start line. The organisers accept no responsibility for loss of clothing or equipment.

Prizes Prizes will be awarded in the 10km and 5km to the first 3 male and female runners and the first O40 male and female and 1st junior male and female (in the 5km) - unless in the top 3 overall and then a roll down applies. No fun run prizes awarded.

Results Competitors' places and times will be posted near the finish area a short while after the runners complete the course. The full official results will be put onto the event's web-site and facebook links provided ASAP and emailed to competitors. Chip timing may not be used for this event however, finish times will be issued after the event online. Should an accurate or backup time be required runners should wear their own stopwatch.

The Course The 10km route is a 1 lap mixed terrain route starting and finishing at the Hermitage of Braid house. Offering mixed terrain trail paths around the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill nature reserve. Unique views across Edinburgh and the Forth.

Cancellation In the event of extreme weather, the race may be cancelled and re-arranged for a later date. In the event of this race being cancelled your entry will be automatically transferred to a rescheduled date. This date will be decided by Scurry Events (most likely the following week). If you are unable to make this date then a 25% refund can be made.

In the event of abandonment, postponement, or cancellation of the event, we will have no responsibility for any costs incurred because of cancellation, including travel or accommodation costs.

Participant withdrawal / Refund Policy If for any reason after registration, you wish to withdraw from the event: Any time up until 30 days from the date of the event you can log in to Entry Central and organise a transfer with someone you know or email for a 50% refund. Between 30 days and 14 days from the event you can log in to Entry Central and organise a transfer with someone you know or email for a 25% refund. No refunds will be given within 14 days. Participants who do not attend the event will not receive any form of refund/credit. During the event: no refunds will be given.

ENTRY FEE 

1.2km (children under 10 must run with an adult)         

£6.50 via entry central (accompanying adults free) until 31st October 2024

£7.50 via entry central (accompanying adults free) until 23rd November 2024.

All children will receive an elf hat to wear and keep after the event. Festive wear is encouraged - but please keep warm - it is the start of winter.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Health and Safety The route is from the Hermitage of Braid House up to the bridge at the lodge house and back. The course is suitable for pushchairs, prams, and buggies however, it will be a busy course so we would ask you to take care and have buggies, etc. start nearer the back.  Conditions will be cold and there are speed bumps and the odd gravel patch or hole in the road so please take care and come prepared. Dogs are not encouraged but well-behaved dogs are permitted on leads.

*Slower runners in the 10km event may still be finishing so please cheer them on and let them run by*

We cannot exclude the public from access during our event however marshals will do their best to warn dog walkers and notify them of competitors coming their way. We ask that you please be courteous to all park users. This is a fun run and times are not recorded.
