The annual Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds Braids Hill XC Race is back! Taking place on Saturday 8th March 2025 over the scenic, rolling hills of Southern Edinburgh, with the stunning city skyline in the backdrop. The undulating course is very popular with local club runners, university students and alumni, as well as our peers at universities countrywide.

The race is followed by a prize-giving, and the festivities continue late into the night with our post-race ceilidh and after-party (ticketed separately - contact euhhsocsec@gmail.com)!

The course is sometimes wet and includes one steep downhill on each lap. Fell or studded racing shoes are recommended, but not spikes as much of the course runs over a gravel bridle path. A map of the course is available on the Hare and Hounds website page below: http://haries.eusu.ed.ac.uk

All competitors have the option to enter either the 5k or the 10k race.

Please make sure to select the correct link for the distance you wish to run as we will be unable to allow last-minute changes if the races are over capacity!

Please note, there are no toilets or parking facilities at the race start. There is however very limited on-street parking nearby. Participants must be 18 years or older on the day of the race.

Entry costs

Advanced (online only) entry is £10.50 for Scottish Athletics affiliated runners, who have a current SA number. If this does not apply to you, you will also need to pay a £2 levy which is passed to Scottish Athletics. Entries are accepted on the day but will cost £2 extra per person.

*University teams: if you are entering as a current university student and representing a university club, you also qualify for the £10.50 entry. This will require your University team to fill out a team entry form which will also allow for multiple entries at once. Please contact the race organiser if you would like a team entry form by emailing euhhraces@gmail.com.

Safety

Athletes should not be on the golf course greens and fairways at all times and officials will enforce this rule for your safety. Please also note that we are NOT permitted to use their facilities. Also, athletes should not be on the public road running parallel to the bridle path as locals need the road to be clear for emergency exit if required. You are welcome to run up the trail routes or on the main road outside the golf course for warming up. There is also a stables nearby, so please avoid being too loud around any horses so they are not disturbed/intimidated.
