Race start
The start line will be at Dockfoot, clearly marked on race day with our Start/Finish gantry and timing equipment.
A pre-race briefing will take place at 10.25am to which all competitors must attend.
The race starts at 10.30am.
Racecourse
The route is run on the footpath or pavement, except in Kingholm Quay where it is on the public road.
The course starts at the bottom of Dock Park, where runners will begin with a lap around the bandstand before exiting the bottom of the park and heading across the Kirkpatrick MacMillan bridge. The route then turns right and for the most part, follows the foot path alongside the River Nith, passing the Robert Burns Centre and Old Bridge Museum. After the museum the route continues on the pavement toward the Bridgend Theatre before taking a sharp turn right towards the Buccleuch Street bridge. Here runners take another sharp right, crossing the bridge and making their way back down the Whitesands towards Suspension bridge. Runners should use the ramps to gain access/exit to Suspension bridge. On exiting the Suspension bridge the route turns left back down the river path to Kirkpatrick MacMillan bridge. Runners will then cross the bridge again, exiting to the right and head for the water station. After the halfway point, the route takes you along the cycle path to Kingholm Quay. Upon exiting the cycle path, please follow marshals’ instructions carefully as this part of the route is on open road. The route takes you right at the Swan Hotel and sharp left up the Kingholm Quay hill. A few hundred metres up the hill a marshal will guide you to turn left into McFarlane Avenue. You will exit at the bottom of McFarlane Avenue and turn right onto Kingholm Road. Here you will continue along the pavement until you reach the bottom of Castledykes Road, and then turn right into Kingholm Drive. The route takes you through the estate and out onto Glencaple Road where you turn left heading for Castledykes Park. Descend through Castledykes Park, exiting back onto Castledykes Road. The race then takes you back into Dock Park for your victory lap before finishing back at the bottom of the park.
To ensure the safety of competitors, the route will be marshalled at key points throughout, and we’ll be operating a lead bicycle and a last runner sweeper. Please follow any instructions marshals give.
Please note also that this race is run on open roads and paths, please be aware of other users, especially those with dogs, and always remain courteous.
Race finish
The finish line will be at the bottom of Dock Park, where you started. Please ensure you keep the finish line area clear, so timing marshals have a clear line of sight to those coming in.
On finishing, all competitors will receive a medal, water and goody bag. If you've injured yourself in any way, professional first aid will be on hand.
Post-race
Prize giving will commence once the last runner crosses the finish line. If you think you have won a prize and need to leave, please see the Race Director before you go.
Full results will be posted up in on the club website and Facebook page later in the day.
Dumfries Harriers look forward to receiving your entry and seeing you on the day.
