Organiser's Description
RUNNERS V RIDERS BOXING DAY 2022
Runners v Riders is a traditional festive event. The totally awesome event, were runners race cyclists to compete for the Markham Cup. The event first started in the 1930's and has gathered pace every year and now lots of people look forward to the challenge of racing either a runner or a cyclist on the off road and very muddy terrain of Friday Woods - a military training ground. It's a challenging 3 lap course, but loved by all.
The junior race which starts at 10.20 am has now been introduced, these guys will do a shorter distance, a 2 lap route and covering approx. 1 mile. The junior race is free and sign ups are on the day, please arrive early to do so. Under 17's will do 2 laps of the main event route and will start with the main race at 11:00 am. All seniors, male and female, will cover 3 laps and approx. 3.5 miles. Please bear in mind before you sign up for this event, it's a mass start event and although we try and keep it as safe as possible, sometimes there is a collision with the runners and cyclists and it is a very muddy and uneven route with ditches and water crossings. Trail trainers are always recommended and you are entering this event at your own risk.
Registration will open at 9:30 am for both races for number collection. Please look out for the Craig's Events tent and parking is limited but available at the location - please car share were possible. Toilets will be available on site but no bag drop.
In the past this event has been free for everyone to enjoy and we have relied on running and cycle club donations but with rising costs to put on the event and not so much support from other clubs we have now had to bring in a small charge just to cover the costs of the event.
Phots and results will be posted to Craig's Events Facebook page after the event.
