Organiser's Description

New Winter Pairs Twin Races

Thanks for being interested in our new mini winter series.

We are hoping to find - up to 25 pairs of runners that will take in this little twin of races that we have prepared and all are licensed under FRA rules. ( was going to be three but dates clashed)

Race 1. - Northern Tors  will be an A class race with 830m climb over 16k. Note route maps - on website are indicative and not the exact route. ( from Fox and Hounds Bridestowe TBC) - Sat Feb 22nd

Race 2 - Central tors -will be B class with 715m climb over 21k. ( from East dart hotel - Postbridge Postbridge )- Saturday 15th March.

This is a new test format for a winter series. We hope you enjoy it- we have tried to set courses that are very runnable and not just a tussoch fest but also get you well into the moor. Hope you enjoy the routes and the navigation. The routes are set for runners who want a go at 10 miles plus - so not for walkers. Lead runner only needs to do online entry but you need a partner- there will be no solo runners. You are entering for both races - there are no entries on the day. ( so race fee covers both runners for both races- only one entry to do of leading runner)

You need to be prepared to run 16/20k with the above height gain. You will be given a definite start time for first race - between 08;30 and 09:30, it will be based on your estimated 16k + 800m ht gain time you provide, with fastest runners setting off last. The precise route and route card will be provided at the start.

All the races require you to run as pairs and carry kit . ( listed below). In addition we are trying to provide  Mobile phone tracking for the event and lead runner will need to agree to share mobile, email address and down load webscorer app. The cost of tracking is covered in the race fee.

The mandatory kit required is - full body cover plus spare top, full water proofs, hat, gloves, whistle, head torch, survival bag each, small first aid kit and small emergency rations plus 500ml liquid. Plus as a team dartmoor map, compass. No kit no run. Oh and shoes that help you stay upright.

Routes and support- we would like all runners to start on time and present for kit check prior to time and to give route card. The course is not marked - you have to navigate,  but there will be orienteering style checkpoints plus one intermediate manned checkpoint. Prizes for best result across 2 races. Fastest Pair, fastest all female pair , fastest mixed pair. no age groups as such a limited field. Plus series prizes. ( if you fail to punch, you will be deemed not to have completed course- unless you have good evidence!?)

Team rules - you stick together and get to all checkpoints ( which will need to be punched). Timing based on second runner in.

You do need to bring in filled FRA entry forms with clear emergency contact details.( for both runners) for first race only. Please arrive 10 mins before your start. You will not get routecard until your start time. It will be a fun, especially if you share the 'Nav'. Routes on website are close but not exact.

Proceeds from the race series just cover prizes then a donation to North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team. SW Fellrunners is a non profit group with all money going back to the sport or NDSART.

Have a great time, see you on the hills .
