St Magnus Marathon Relay

Start Date and Time: Sunday 7th July 2024 at 9.30am.

Registration: 08.30 to 9.00am at the Town Hall Kirkwall. (Directly opposite St Magnus Cathedral)

Relay teams of 3. (Any gender mix)

Relay teams are responsible for dropping and picking up their team members from change over points. Therefore will need a car +/- a driver.

All team members to attend registration at the Town Hall Kirkwall (across from the St Magnus Cathedral). Leg 2 & 3 runners can watch the start before heading to their change over points.

The three legs are:

1. Kirkwall to Finstown School (7.9 miles)

This route starts flat but you are soon faced with the Hatston brae, before heading over Sunnybank to the old Finstown road, after a good bit of undulation there is a nice down hill. Before the gentle uphill then downhill again into Finstown.  You pass the water station and turn right towards Evie for half a mile for the change over at the Finstown school layby.  Please park in the school car park and not in the layby.

2. Finstown to Evie (7.3 miles)

This segment starts pretty flat through Firth towards Rendall for a few miles. But then there is the climb up through Rendall to Evie.  With the change over at the Evie school layby, please park in the school car park and not in the layby.

3. Evie to Birsay (11 miles)

The longest and probably toughest section. Let's just say you have a few up and down hills through Costa & Swannay before you reach the wonderful top of the hill. Where you are greeted by a beautiful view of the Broch of Birsay, you know then it's only a few miles to go and nearly all downhill!
