Organiser's Description

The 2024 Round Strathaven 50 (RS50) and 15 (RS15) Charity cycle events will take place on Sunday 18th August.

As last year the format will be:

·        You choose your start time by entering the event that has your preferred time (subject to availability).

·        Please see each event page for more details.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR THE CORRECT EVENT TIME AND DISTANCE.

The Events

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE EVENTS TAKE PLACE ON OPEN ROADS AND ARE NOT A RACE.

The RS50 is a challenging, fun cycle run ideal for both leisure and club cyclists following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapleton and Auldhouse. The growing number of cyclists who take part see the 50 mile route as presenting them with a very worthwhile challenge. The event has also achieved "fame" for the fantastic home baking available at the various village halls for those who want to make a quick "pit-stop"!

There is also the alternative and equally popular RS15, a 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worth-while challenge and is ideal for families with younger children.

Gpx files for both routes can be downloaded from www.roundstrathaven50.org.uk/route-2/

The RS50 was held for the first time in 2002. It has attracted an increasing number of participants each year, and to date has raised over £150,000 for the benefit of both the Strathaven Scouts and Guides and various Charities including Health Help International, and Kasin.

As the event is organised by volunteers and costs are minimised this ensures that almost all the entry fee goes to charity. Participants may choose to donate more via an increased entry fee or to raise additional funds for the Charities through sponsorship (sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website).

Parking – There are various parking location around the town. Some have time restrictions. Please do NOT use the Leisure Centre carpark.

Registration – Main Entrance, Strathaven Academy, Bowling Green Rd, ML10 6DP. Please note Bowling Green Road is very narrow and best avoided by cars.

See your chosen event for registration times and specific details.

Registration desks will be clearly identified by entry number.

There is plenty space at the Academy for bikes (NB : security of your bike and possessions are your responsibility).

Along the well signposted routes there will be Marshalls at various points and at some road crossings who are there to monitor progress and to aid safety. The route is such that it is possible to opt out at any stage.

Refreshments are available on the 50 mile route at the village halls in Sandford (at 20 miles) and Glassford (at 30 miles) and at Skeoch Crossroads for both the 50 mile and 15 mile routes (about halfway round the 15 miles). Final refreshments will be available at Strathaven Academy.

Please note that if there is severe adverse weather on the day, the event will be rescheduled with as much advance notice as possible. There will be no refunds just transfer to the alternative date.

A briefing note and map will be emailed to entrants a few days before the event.
